CIT Program
For the 2024 camp season, our Counselor in Training Program (CIT) is for students either entering 8th in the fall 2024 and by application only. Students interested must first apply to the program. Camp directors will review each application as they come in and acceptance into the program is on a rolling basis. We anticipate it will take roughly 3-4 weeks from the time a student applies to alert them of their status in the program. The program is limited to an enrollment of 15. For more information, please contact Camp Directors Julie Laing and Leila Crooks.
Program Goals
The CIT program is designed to be fun, while developing the skills and confidence necessary to work with young children. This program is especially useful for those considering spending their future summers as a camp counselor or plan to babysit.
Enrollment in the program is limited to ensure the most effective personal training possible.
Program Structure
CITs spend half of their camp days working with their program leader. Through a variety of team-building games, problem solving activities, discussions, role-playing, trips and other activities, they will learn how to work with others most effectively, how to resolve conflicts, and how to run games and activities for children.
Afternoons are spent getting hands-on experience working with children. CITs rotate among several different age groups to get as broad an experience as possible. Feedback and support from the counselors and teachers, in addition to frequent conversations with their program leader and the camp director will help them develop their skills as much as possible.
CITs also enjoy several special activities and trips just for them throughout the summer. Past trips have included Dutch Springs, ropes course adventures, escape rooms and more.
